Volunteer Opportunities
- Sierra Coat Project
The purpose of the Sierra Coat Project is to collect coats and blankets to donate to impoverished individuals in the Bay Area. The coats and blankets will be collected via canisters placed in the community of Lafayette, Moraga, and Orinda (Lamorinda) and delivered to an organization called “Christmas For Everyone” (CFE). CFE has been helping individuals in need for 22 years, working in collaboration with local organizations to, “make sure no one spends Christmas alone.”
We are in need of individuals who would like to help in the delivery of donated items to CFE, as well as locations to place donation containers.
- Noche de Lights y Amor (Night of Lights and Love)
Noche de Lights y Amor is an annual Christmas celebration given to bring joy to unaccompanied minors, who reside at the Southwest Key shelter, in Pleasant Hill, California. The children at this shelter range in ages, from five to 17 years old, and live at the shelter until they are reunited with their families. These children are primarily from Latin American, and Asian countries, who traveled to the United States to find work. Noche de Lights y Amor gives these children a beautiful evening, which includes gifts, shows, and dancing.
We are in need of volunteers to assist in the preparation of food, set up and break down of banquet facility, food serving, wrapping of gifts, as well as other volunteer opportunities.
- Lafayette Art and Wine Festival
The Lafayette Art and Wine Festival is the largest event in Lamorinda. The event is sponsored by the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. At the festival are numerous food and craft booths, as well as entertainment.
Volunteers are needed to sit at Betty Jean Brown Foundation’s informational booth, which will be at the event.
- Lamorinda Day of Service
In 1994, Congress transformed the celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday into a national day of service. All Americans are asked to serve their communities on this day. Betty Jean Brown is answering this call to action with the Lamorinda Day of Service. Youths will meet at various locations in Lamorinda to beautify the community, do litter removal, and improve the lives of those in need.
- Lafayette Summer Jazz Workshop
Volunteers from the Lafayette Summer Jazz Workshop perform annually at Betty Jean Brown Foundation’s Noche de Lights y Amor Celebration. In return, Betty Jean Brown Foundation donates funds to assist the Lafayette Summer Jazz Workshop in providing scholarships to youths who could otherwise not afford to attend.
- eScrip Solicitation Day
eScrip is a corporate giving program which lets customers choose where companies make donations. Betty Jean Brown Foundation is a recipient of this corporate sponsorship. Volunteers will gain grass roots experience, hitting the pavement during solicitation days, increasing supporters through this program.
